HOW TO LOOK LIKE YOU HAVE IT TOGETHER, WHEN REALLY YOU’RE A HOT MESS.
My last blog I talked about how I am a hot mess mom and I don’t deny it. I own it. But I wanted to do a separate post about how you can manage some little self care to ensure you feel confidant and look like “I’m a Mom who has a shit together” in the working world.
There are little wins you can incorporate into your day that will give you a boost.
Blow Dry Bar
Get a weekly blow out. Research some salons by your work, sacrifice a lunch hour o n a Monday or Tuesday and get a blow out. You can usually find some salons that will have specials on for blow outs, $20-30, and then you have your hair set for the week, saving you time in the morning and saving you looking messy when you try to do something with that mop on your head at 6am while running 20 minutes late, and finally resolving to yet, another ponytail.
Work wardrobe
This depends on how strict or not your place of employment is. I have a very strong business attire policy at my work and damn….decent work clothes are EXPENSIVE! But there are some gems that have wicked prices, sale and trendy stuff. Dynamite: This is my go to, #1 place for business work wear. It’s affordable, incredibly cute and trendy, and they have an app that gives you various offers, and keeps track of what you’ve bought. They also have deals like 1 blazer, get one ½ off. The quality is actually pretty good too. Not a dig at forever 21, but some of their stuff falls apart after one wear. Suzy Shier: Yes, I’m completely serious. I recently got 4 dresses and a sweater for $90. Not bad right? Designer Shoe Warehouse: This gem is overlooked. Nine West, Calvin Klein, all sorts of higher end shoe brands that won’t break your feet or your bank account. Winning! (does anyone say that anymore? sometimes I really show my age..)
Skincare routine (Actually wash your make up off before bed….seriously)
Invest in good skin care and actually do it. I cannot tell you the difference in my skin with actually starting a routine. It doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive. I would highly recommend looking into a daily chemical peel, especially if you are desiring brighter skin, smaller pores and anti aging benefits. There are lots, so research, depending on your wallet. I will say, Sephora has some amazing trial kits that are affordable and allows you to test products for 14 days or so. I personally like Dr. Dennis Gross Anti aging Daily Peels.
Jewelry
No, not diamonds and gold shit. But just even Ardene’s or Walmart. Yes, Walmart. A necklace with an outfit or nice earrings can make the look and it doesn’t have to be expensive.
Cold Water = better than coffee (ok I’m lying but it’ll wake you up!)
Splash of cold water right when you wake up. I actually don’t wash my face in the morning. I splash a few times with ice cold water, wakes me up and makes me feel so alert. Then follow with a moisturizer or a oil/serum. I personally don’t use serums/oils for the day. They actually make me greasy and don’t fully absorb, so make up just melts off my face. It’s not a great look.
Keep your Louboutin’s at work! (or in my case my steal of deal Calvin Kleins)
Wear flats to work and change into heels once at work. I get a locker at work, and I have 3-4 pairs of heels I leave there.
This keeps your heels in better shape as your not walking outside with them. Concrete and weather can be brutal. Also, who wants to drive in heels. My feet thank me at the end of the day too.
Who needs a lunch anyways!?
Again, utilize your lunch hour for the gym even. I will eat at my desk or on the run so I can do other things. With 2 kids and school I do NOT have time to go to the gym.
